African Leaders Health Board provides Covid-19 vaccines, health screenings, and assistance navigating the healthcare system at Tanzania Community Health Day.

On June 18th, 2022, the African Leaders Health Board (ALHB) hosted Tanzania Community Health Day in Bellevue, Washington. Dunia Health Clinic, Select Family Clinic, Center for Multicultural Health, Zanzibar Community of Washington State, Tanzania Community of Washington, Fanikia Foundation, Community Health Plan of Washington, and Providence Elder Place all worked together to be the change they wish to see in the community.

Tanzania Community Health Day (Siku ya Afya) was a day of food, music, fun, and health. This event gave members of the Tanzanian immigrant community an opportunity to find a primary healthcare provider, get assistance navigating the health insurance system, and connect with community leaders. Diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol, HIV, and kidney screenings were some of the many free health services provided. Cancer education and mammogram enrollment were also provided at this event.

Both Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccinations for all ages were administered on-site. The African Leaders Health Board distributed information on how to achieve full vaccination status and reiterated CDC recommendations for all age groups. They answered community questions regarding the COVID-19 vaccination in both English and Kiswahili. Conversations regarding vaccine hesitancy were welcomed and healthcare professionals were present to help lead those conversations.

The African Leaders Health Board will continue to host health events for the African immigrant community in the King County area. Check our website and follow us on social media to stay up to date on future events. Feel free to contact alhealthboard@gmail.com for a COVID test or COVID-19 vaccine referral. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
